Several years ago, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Citizen’s Board was eliminated. In response, then-Governor Dayton created the “Governor’s Committee to Advise the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.” This committee is comprised of the MPCA commissioner and eight members of the public. Gov. Walz recently issued an order renewing this committee and seeking eight new members. This group has previously provided MPCA with valuable counsel on its permitting, rules and environmental review decisions.
The committee is an excellent opportunity for the voices of Greater Minnesota to be heard on water, air, solid waste and other important environmental issues. According to the MPCA, they “need eight people with vast diverse experiences.” We encourage both city staff and elected officials to consider applying to be part of this committee.
